Advanced Photo Aging Skin
Photo aging is the term used to describe the damage done to the skin from prolonged exposure to UV radiation. When the level of damage termed actinic damage has occurred, it is progressive and there are special treatment considerations. Common presentations include deep wrinkling, keratinization and coarsening of the skin, dehydrations and hyperpigmentation. The causes of this condition include ultraviolet radiation, tanning beds, fluorescent and ambient lighting and cellular oxidation (the damage to cellular proteins, lipids, and DNA). Controlling advanced photo aging with a chemical peel series involves gentle exfoliation to increase cell turnover and smooth uneven skin texture, inhibition of melanogenesis, increase matrix proteins, increase hydration and protection from UV rays and other inflammatory stimulants.
